Mattias Liljezin, Development Lead
What is your role at MatHem and how long have you worked here?
I work as a Development Lead for the Personalization Team and have been at Mathem since August 2018.
What do your days look like at work?
I spend most of my time programming new and existing functions for Mathem's various systems. I mostly work with backend and architecture in AWS, but sometimes ML and other fun systems, such as Mathem's app for Google Assistant. Also, I have a few meetings and standups + retros with the team. I have the ambition to also spend one day a week on making our technology platform and tools even better (some are available on Github). Finally, I'm trying to stay up to date on everything that is happening, and I like to experiment with new things that are released.
Give one (or more) tips to those who want to apply for a job within your team!
In general, you should probably like product development, since Mathem as a product is fun to work with! Since we own the entire product life cycle - from a customer putting something in the shopping cart to the driver leaving the grocery bags to you at the door - we are much more than just an E-commerce site. For the team, you should appreciate working close to our users, as personalization is based on how well we know our customers. You must enjoy working as a team as we prefer to do stuff together. It is, of course, a plus if you are interested in machine learning.
Coriander - yes or no?
I am a big fan of Indian food, so the answer is YES.
Dinner must be on the table within 20 minutes, what do you cook?
Since I am not used to working with deadlines *wink*, it will probably be a classic pasta with green pesto and olive oil - topped with basil.
The best takeaway food?
Thai food is a classic, but who can say no to a Mango Chicken Balti? However, with my hand on the heart, nothing beats the truffle burger with sweet potato fries!
